    Tuesday

I had workshops about JavaScript that taught the fundamentals of JavaScript. it will be very important for me to learn JavaScript for future projects due to the functionality it can add to HTML. I currently am finding it tricky to understand it however in time I’m sure I’ll get a better grasp of it.

    Wednesday

We had our third ways of being session about randomness and what it means to us. This mainly involved talks about how randomness can inform creative choices and be used to create something that that even the creator doesn’t expect. I have always enjoyed creating things that have a degree of unpredictability which i would like to include in potential future projects.

    Thursday

In the morning we had a lecture on web design principles which i think will be very helpful when developing web pages in future projects due to how they can be used to guide the design process. We also had Lawrence Daykin come in to discuss how he creates living art around the world. He spoke about how he uses architecture to create living art pieces.

In the afternoon I finished my first project; A responsive photo gallery.

I think it came out really well. I created a responsive design that is able to change layout and size depending on the size of the viewers screen. I used my GCSE photography photographs for the gallery. I didn’t find the project to hard overall and i definitely taught me about using CSS flexboxes.

    Tuesday

On this day I had 2 workshops on how to use CSS gridboxes. I think its very important to understand how to use them due to how they can be used to make a dynamic website that changes size depending on screen size. I will need to keep in mind how to use this for the future due to how having a responsive website is very important in modern times.

    Wednesday

On Wednesday we had our ways of being session where we covered the topic “thinking otherwise” where we looked at what intelligence means to us and the use of AI. I personally think AI should only be used in more scientific fields due to it ability to process data. however, in a creative field AI takes away from artists which anyone wouldn’t support.

    Thursday

We had a lecture on computational thinking which is the idea of thinking like a computer to help understand how a computer processes instructions. We spoke about logical operators such as AND OR NOT and flowcharts. I am already quite familiar with these things due to coding requiring a lot of logical operators and i had an exam which primarily used flowcharts in college.

  • Week 2

    Tuesday

On this day I had 2 workshops on using CSS in websites. One part that I found especially helpful was learning about the vh measurement which will allow me to make more responsive websites. We also looked into website positioning where content on the pages can be moved to relative or absolute positions

    Wednesday

We had our first ways of being session where we covered what these session are going to be about. We discussed what motivates and demotivates us and mental health. I think these sessions are going to be interesting since they cover wide areas of discussion which I can learn people’s takes on.

    Thursday

We had Leanna Lucas come in from aviva who used to be a student at norwich uni of the arts. she told us how she got into the industry after doing a non-computing course and taking a chance with learning how to code. I found it interesting to learn about the daily life of a lead web designer and what she learned to reach this point in her career.

  • Week 1

    Tuesday

On my first day I had 2 workshops on HTML and CSS. I had done work using HTML and CSS in college so for me it was more of a recap. However, going back over it again was quite helpful since I got to go more in depth on how a website is structed at both a front and backend level which will be able to help me build neater pages in the future.

    Wednesday

This was the first day of “make it manifesto” where I was able to learn about projection mapping using a piece of software called MadMapper. This day was primarily tutorial on how to use the software with the group I was in.

    Thursday

Here we started to to use projection mapping to create a display. my group at first tried to use the offline dinosaur game in our projection map.

The idea was to use blue for everything above the ground of the game and orange for the ground to show off the desert theme of the game. We tried to use a table by a wall to project the sand to the table and the sky to the wall to give the projection more depth.

We had found it difficult to get everything to line up so we decided to scrap this idea. We instead decided to work the other way round where we instead focused on what geometry we had available to us. we found two pillars in on the computing rooms and decided to project onto them and the wall behind them.

By using the approach we created a fiery gate on the pillars with a large eye on the wall behind it.
